Bathurst – Father Edmond Chamberlain, 81, of Winton Cres., Bathurst, passed away accidently in Bathurst on Thursday June 4, 2015.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Philias and Lydia (Chiasson) Chamberlain.
He is survived by four brothers: Lionel Chamberlain (Enis Erickson) of Sault Ste Marie, Ont., Wallace Chamberlain of Brossard, Que., Robert Chamberlain and Yvon Chamberlain (Lorraine Frenette) both of Bathurst.
Six sisters : Anita LeBlanc of Tustin, California, U.S., Eléonore Howe (Bill) of Fort Pierce, Florida, U.S., Sr. Corinne Chamberlain, ndsc of Moncton, Hazel Chamberlain (Tommy Boucher) of Bathurst, Simone Jensen (Dave) of Calgary, Alta. and Paula LeBlanc (Marc) of Shediac. Several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by one brother, Georges (Pat Samson) and a sister, Sister Annette, Missionnaire Christ Roi.
Father Chamberlain was ordained as a priest on June 11, 1960. Served as Assistant Pastor at Rivière-du-Portage (1960 to 1961); Paquetville (1961 to 1962); Campbellton (N.-D.-des-Neiges) (1962); Néguac (1965); Lamèque (1968 to 1969) and Atholville (1969). Was parish Priest in Beaverbrook (1970); Maisonette (1980 à 1982); St. Theresa (Bathurst) and Our Lady of Grace (BigRiver) (1989 à 1998); Sacred-Heart Cathedral (Bathurst), St. Theresa (Bathurst) and Our Lady of Grace (BigRiver) (1992 to 1998); St. John Bosco (Dalhousie) (1998 to 2003). Administrator for Jacquet River (1980); Val D'Amour (1984) and Robertville (1985 to 1988).
Other functions: Assistant Chaplain for Catholic Youth Students (J.E.C.) in 1966; Committee member of S.S.M.; treasurer (1986 to 1989); secretary (1992 to 1995) and member (1995 à 2004). Was an Auditor for the Halifax Regional Tribunal (Bathurst division) (1987); Judge for the Halifax Regional Tribunal (Bathurst division) (1994 to 2000); Diocese Representative to the ''Renouveau Charismatique'' (1998 to 2008...); Member of S.S.M (2006 to 2009....). One year of study in Montreal at l'Institut pastoral des Dominicains (1998). Took a one year sabbatical in 1979 and retired on August 1, 2003 to his residence on Winton Dr., Bathurst, after 43 years of service.
The body will rest on Monday, June 8, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst, and Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 11 a.m. until time of Funeral at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Andrew St., Bathurst.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday afternoon June 9, 2015 at 2 p.m. from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Andrew St., Bathurst.
