1931 - 2015
Bathurst - Alois Leonfellner, 83 of Bathurst, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst. He lived with Parkinson’s disease for many years. Born in Linz, Austria he was the son of Cecila and Leopold Reiter.
Al came to Canada in 1953. After spending a few years in Toronto and Elliot Lake, he moved, with his family, to Labrador City, Nfld., where he was the head of IOC’s heavy equipment department. There he discovered his love of skiing, and was very involved in the development of the Smokey Mountain Ski Hill.
In 1974, he moved to Belledune, N.B., and worked as the Mechanical Superintendent until his retirement in 1996.
He will be remembered lovingly by his wife Pille (Konze) Leonfellner and his children: Dr. Renate Steger of Vienna, Austria, Suzanne Leonfellner of Fredericton, Perry B. Leonfellner (Bonnie) of Fort St. John, B.C. and Nina Leonfellner Tappin (Simon) of Bristol, England.
His grandchildren: Jana Boeckmann, Celina Abba, Fiona Abba and Alexandra Tappin.
His great grandchildren: Amelie, Valerie and Nikolas. Two sisters: Cecila Hetrick of Qualicum Beach, B.C., and Maria Feichtner of Austria.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the First United Church, St. Patrick St., Bathurst.
Donations, in memory of Alois, may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
The family would also like to thank all of the caregivers, the doctors and nurses that were involved in his care.
