1927 – 2015
Martina (Lecouter) Lavigne of Bathurst passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the age of 88 years at the Foyer Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes.
Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Zelica (Larocque) LeCouter.
Martina was the mother of ten children which kept her busy at all times. She also worked full time, first at the Canadian Tire store when it started in Bathurst on Main Street, and then at Bayside Chrysler Dodge in the Service Department. She was well liked and respected in her workplaces.
She loved to read. She could read a book in a couple of days. Her home was the centre of her immediate and extended family with everyone gathering there, usually on a weekly basis, for a good game of Auction 45. Those were times that she enjoyed, along with so many others. She and her husband, Emmanuel, spent much of their time together at their camp in Grand Falls where the fun continued with family and friends.
Martina was predeceased by her husband, Emmanuel, and half of her ten children. She lost Lorraine, Jeannette (the first of two Jeannette’s), Lawrence "Poppy", Albert "Keetchie", Jeannette "Coonie".
She is survived by her three daughters: Alice Lapointe of Campbellton, Mary Jean Lavigne (Bonnie Boucher) and Yvette Lavigne Frank (Alan) all of Bathurst and two sons: Dennis (Jocelyne Pitre) and Henry both of Bathurst.
Eight grandchildren: Stephanie, Jody, Justin, Melissa, Danielle, Shawn, Shane, Scott and two great grandchildren: Alyssa and Chase.
Two brothers: Alvin LeCouter and Leo LeCouter both of Bathurst and one sister, Ola Lamothe of Val D’Or, Quebec.
Several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday evening, July 3, 2015 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning, July 4, 2015 at 11 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Andrew St., Bathurst.
