Bathurst - Lionel Blanchard, formerly of Poirier Lane, Bathurst, passed away on Saturday April 22, 2017 at the Robert L. Knowles Veteran Unit in Bathurst, at the age of 91.
Born in Burnsville, he was the son of the late Henri and Marie-Claire (Légère) Blanchard.
He served in World War II with the Royal Canadian Army in Canada and overseas. He worked in carpentry and construction for most of his life.
He was predeceased by his wife, Adrienne (Godin) Blanchard in 2003.
He is survived by a son, André Blanchard (Marc Parisien) of Ottawa, Ont; two grandsons: Eric (Lisa Haines) and Paul.
Three brothers: Wilfred Blanchard (Thérèse) of Caraquet, Sylvio Blanchard (Réna) and Adrien Blanchard (Anita) both of Notre-Dame-des-Erables.
Two sisters: Rita St-Jacques (late Georges) of Saint-Eustache, Que. and Germaine Robichaud (late Alphonse) of Paquetville.
One brother-in-law, Jean-Eudes Vienneau of Caraquet. Several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters: Christina, Gilberte (late Elie Cormier) and two brothers: Albini (late Stella) and Joseph (late Exilda).
The family will receive relatives and friends after 1 p.m. Tuesday April 25, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1960 Palmer Dr., Bathurst, from where the Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m.
Donations in memory of Lionel can be made to a charity of the donors choice.
