It is with profound sadness that the family of Laurier (Red) Chiasson announce his passing on Sunday, November 4th, 2018 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, NB at the age of 83 with his loving wife Jeannette and son Bernard by his side.

Red was born in Bathurst, NB of the late Edmond and Phoebe (Mallet) Chiasson.

Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by his son Bernard (Joanne Rutledge) of Milton, ON and his two granddaughters Amy and Lauren Chiasson. 

Surviving Red are his 6 brothers, Jack (late Angie) of Montreal, PQ, Jimmy, Gilbert (Debbie), Cletus (Betty), Robert (Glenda), Jarvis (Cathy) all of Bathurst, NB and his 5 sisters Isabelle (late Gerald Roy), Yvette (Roger Hachey) of Moncton, NB, Theresa (Edwin Sealy) of Woodstock, NB, Sylvia (Camille Daigle), Eva (Mario Dugas) of Dieppe, NB. 

He is predeceased by his brothers Aurele (late Violet), Stanley, Telesphore, Albany (late Claudette), Billy (Mel), his sisters Amy (Felix Frigault), Adele (late Donald Daigle). He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

After retiring from a long career with Brunswick Mining he received great joy by time spent with family and friends. Red will always be remembered for his generosity, his spirit for life and his love of sports.  Red was a member of the NB Sports Hall of Fame along with his team members from the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO).  He was also a very active member of the Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator and District Deputy.

The Family would like to express their gratitude to the Palliative Care Unit at the Chaleur Regional Hospital for the excellent quality of care given him during his stay.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, November 6th from 7pm to 9 pm at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday November 7th at 11 am at Sacred Heart Cathedral. 

If donations in memory of Red are considered the family suggest that they be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
