Léo Desjardins passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family members, on Sunday, December 2nd, 2018, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst at the age of 77.
Born in St-Jacques, NB, he was the son of the late Joseph and Emma (Daigle) Desjardins.
Besides his wife Bibiane (Morency) Desjardins, he is survived by his daughters: Josée (Sylvain), Chantal (Marc) and Nadine (Gino), and his grandchildren whom he adored, Antoine, Simon, Florence, Maëlle and Caleb.
His sisters: Aline and Juliette; brothers Léonard (Béatrice), Guy (Marie-Reine), his brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws Rachel, Roxane, Hilaire (Marcellyne), Jude, Martine, Julie (Pierre), Suzanne (Jean) and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers: Claude (Solange), Donat, Ovide and a sister Thérèse (Maurice).
Throughout his life, Léo demonstrated great determination having completed many marathons and ultramarathons. He was inducted into the Bathurst Sports Hall of Fame in 1997 in the builder category.
Léo contributed significantly to his community by volunteering for various organizations. He also enjoyed different outdoor activities and traveling.
He worked as an optometrist.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, December 7th, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. at Elhatton Funeral Home, (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 8th at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Bathurst.
Donations in memory of Léo may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
