It is with great sadness, the family of Cyr “Papoo” Lavigne announces his death following a brief illness on Thursday, December 5, 2019 which occurred at the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes at the age of 79.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Adelard and Sarah (Cyr) Lavigne.
Cyr was well known and loved by many. He was a volunteer firefighter and managed the former Wild Goose Tavern, until an accident that left him a quadriplegic at the age of 39.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sylvia (Stever) Lavigne.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Helen DeHaitre (Raymond), Kevin Lavigne (Tammy) and Karen Maher (John) all of Bathurst.
Six grandchildren; Donnie (Bianca), Sara, Melissa (Jason), Samantha, Meagan and Cherikee; 13 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers, Vaughan (Velma), Gerald (Faye) both of Bathurst, Kenneth (Dorothy) of Medicine Hat, AB; sisters, Pat Gallant (Floyd) of Shediac, NB and Diane Adams (Clayton) of Medicine Hat, AB; sisters-in-law, Pat Lavigne and Barb Lavigne.
Several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Louis, Denis (late Aline), Bobby and Edgar.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 4 p.m. from Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel, St. George St. Donations in memory of Cyr made be made to the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes.
