Lois Mabel Tower (nee McCarthy), 95, formerly of Carl Drive, Bathurst, passed away peacefully on December 9 at the Foyer Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes with her family at her side.
Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Clarence McCarthy and the late Lillian (Eddy) McCarthy. She was predeceased by her husband Andrew Ian Tower, her infant daughter Ann Elizabeth and brother, Whitfield McCarthy.
She is survived by her children Bonnie Van der Pluijm (Tony), Gary Tower (Joanne), both of Bathurst, Nancy Tower (Paul Delicaet) of Tampa, Florida, and Susan Tower Poitras (Burton Poitras) of Riverview, NB. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Jodie Lee, Jeff Van der Pluijm, Paul Van der Pluijm, Jennifer Tower, Jonathan Tower, Sarah Delicaet, Kathleen Delicaet, Andrew Delicaet, Christopher Poitras and Allison Poitras and twelve great grandchildren, two nieces and four nephews. Her last few years were made more special because of the excellent care and love of Edithe Stevens, who became a source of joy to her and comfort to the family.
For Lois, family meant everything. She enjoyed having her family around her, whether it was summers at the beach or our big family celebration at Christmas. She was a wonderful cook, making family gatherings even more special. The family will miss her dearly and will carry on her many traditions in the years to come.
She worked in the family business and for her community. She was a lifelong member of the United Church Women, First United Church and for many years, the IODE. She loved to travel, especially to sunny places. She and Ian took up tennis, which she loved to play in Florida during winter vacations.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at First United Church, St. Patrick Street, Bathurst, on Thursday, December 12, at 2 pm with a reception to follow in the Donald Eddy Memorial Hall. Donations in memory of Lois can be made to First United Church, Bathurst, to the Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
