It is with great sadness that the family of John Hannan, of North Tetagouche, announce his passing on Thursday, July 30th, 2020 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer.
John was born in Bathurst and was the son of Vicky (Chamberlain) Hannan and the late Gerald Hannan.
Besides his mother of Bathurst and his loving wife of 52 years, Audrey (Young) Hannan, he is survived by his son, Chris (Christine) of Moncton, NB and his daughter, Melanie (Kevin) of Amherst, NS.
Five grandchildren: Jordan, Megan, Shelby, Mitchell and Nova.
One brother, Marc Hannan (Lisa). Nine sisters: Linda Chamberlain (Everett Melanson), Mary Farrell (Melvin), Sharon Gallant (Richard), Gail Hannan (Gilles Couture), Wanda Hannan Levesque (Mike), Dorothy Boudreau (Michel), Barbara Reardon (Eric), Lorraine Hannan (Marc LeBlanc) and Joan Marquis (Glen).
Two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
John is also survived by his mother-in-law, Cecile Young (late Vernon Young) of Bathurst.
John was retired from the former Brunswick Mines in 2000 (after 30 years). He was a member of “Big Brothers/Sisters” for 10 years and was a “Big Brother” to Christopher & Jonathan whom he thought so much of.
John was a devoted Catholic, a very caring person who loved people and always said “Everyone should do a good deed for someone every day”. He loved his favorite camping spot “Cedar Cove” where he made so many good friends for the past 12 summers.
At John’s request, there will be no visitations at the funeral home. Due to the pandemic, a private family service will be celebrated from Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the doctors & staff of the Dr. George L. Dumont Hospital, Oncology Center in Moncton and the doctors & staff of the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, for the excellent care he received.
