Bathurst – Mrs. Colette Chiasson, wife of Réginald Chiasson, of Bathurst, passed away on Sunday May 2, 2021 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst at the age of 78.
Born in Petit-Rocher, she was the daughter of the late Philippe and Berthilde (Comeau) Cormier.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Marco Chiasson (Monique Poirier) of Bathurst. Two grandchildren whom she cherished: Eve and Samuel.
One brother, Raoul Cormier (Nelda) of Dieppe and four sisters: Jacqueline (late Donald Comeau) of Moncton, Georgette (Léon Thériault) of Bathurst, Juliette (Wayne Keayes) of Tide Head and Francine Cormier of Saint-Augustin, QC as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
In the 1970s Colette worked as a teacher in Petit-Rocher and Bathurst. She then worked as an educational consultant and also sat on the Bathurst District School Board. She loved the students and cared about their learning. She firmly believed that every child deserved to be treated fairly and encouraged them to reach their full potential. She was also a member of “les Dames d'Acadie” of Bathurst.
Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by a sister, Gilberte Bérubé.
The family will receive relatives and friends for public visitations on Thursday, May 6, from 1:30 p.m to 3:15 p.m. at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. from Our Lady of the Rosary Church, St. Peter Ave. Please note physical distancing measures will be in place at the church and funeral home and masks are masks are mandatory.
