The Lavigne family would like to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Marie Sylvia Lavigne, formerly of Dumaresq Street in Bathurst, which occurred on Monday October 3rd, 2022, at the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes at the age of 95 and a half years. Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Charles Lavigne Sr and the late Elizabeth (Bessie) Melanson. She is survived by her children: David Allen Lavigne (Estelle Boudreau), Charles Thomas Lavigne (Linda Doucet), Sandra Lavigne (Rothwell), eleven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Sylvia was the last living member of her immediate family. She is now resting in peace with her husband Aloysius Hazen Lavigne, her daughter, Elizabeth Gail and son, John; her brothers: Paul C., Robert, Charles Jr., Albert C.; her sisters: Gertrude, Mildred, Evangeline and an adopted sister, Gertrude Walsh. Sylvia was a long-time member of the CWL and served as one time president for the league. She organized and directed the Senior Choir for the St. Theresa parish and the Sacred-Heart Cathedral for more than 60 years. Her greatest love aside from her family was Jesus Christ. She also taught catechism to children in the 50’s and 60’s. She also entertained people with the gift of her voice at various events such as: Curl for Cancer, Relay for life, Skate for the heart, pro-life and for many seniors in the area. She was a wonderful mother, great wife and a devoted catholic. We will miss you Mom. The family wishes to extend their heart felt gratitude to everyone at the Southern Comfort Villa, Chaleur Regional Hospital, Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes for the care and respect given to our mother. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) on Tuesday October 11th between 7 and 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated from the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bathurst on Wednesday October 12th, 2022 at 2 p.m. In memory of Sylvia, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated
