It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the death of Barbara (Barb) Lynn Murphy, of Dieppe, which occurred unexpectedly on Saturday, November 26, at the age of 47 years old.
Born in Mississauga, ON, she was the beloved daughter of John Murphy (Elizabeth Sylvester) of Beresford and Lynn Murphy (Brian Lee) of Montreal, and the loving sister of James “Jim” Murphy of North Tetagouche and Kevin Murphy of Montreal.
In addition to her parents and brothers, Barb is survived by her niece Chloe Murphy and nephew Kaelan Murphy. She is further survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Barb was an avid volleyball player in her youth, having played for the BHS Phantoms and then later for the UPEI Panthers. She never turned down the opportunity to hit the ball around in the back yard. She was touched to be part of the recent induction of Bathurst High School AAA Girls Volleyball Team into the Bathurst Sports Hall of Fame.
Barb went to school in Moncton to become an Electrical Engineering Technologist. She then went on to work for Bell Aliant in Moncton as an Implementation Coordinator, having just received recognition for her 20 years of service with the company.
She also had an artistic side, that she expressed through photography, drawing and card making. She was very generous and loved to share her creations with those she loved.
Barb was an animal lover, having deeply cared for numerous pets over the years. She also had a green thumb and enjoyed learning about and collecting plants of all kinds.
Self-proclaimed encyclopedia of random facts, she was sharp witted and didn’t shy away from a debate. Her unique sense of humour and a boisterous laugh will be greatly missed.
In line with Barb’s wishes, there will be no formal service or visitation at the funeral home. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.ehatton.com), Bathurst.
The family would appreciate donations to Bathurst SPCA (Donate From the Comfort of Your Own Home (bathurstspca.com) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
