Bathurst - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mrs. Evelyn Gionet announces her passing on December 25th, 2022 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital.

Evelyn was born in Bathurst in 1929 on Lavigne Street and lived there until her death. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Victorine (Aubie) Lavigne, husband Gerard Gionet, sister Alice Rouillier and brother Byron Lavigne.

Missing her already are her children: Shirley Estey (Joe) of Moncton, Judy Draper (John) of Saint John, Eric Gionet (Gabriella Tymowski) of Fredericton, and Lorrie Gionet (Daniel Vienneau) of Toronto; her eight grandchildren, fifteen (soon to be sixteen) great-grandchildren, sister Viola Fisher of Bathurst, many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.

Evelyn was an active person who truly lived life to the fullest. She was proud to climb Mount Carleton and to be the oldest person to participate in the Fredericton Marathon, both while in her 80’s, in addition to her love of skating and Dusty Sneakers. She took up any opportunity to travel, visiting her daughter many times in Toronto, her sister in Montreal, her family across NB and occasionally taking bus tours. The home where she lived for almost 70 years was always open to friends and family and there would always be home cooking or baking waiting for whoever arrived. Her faith was extremely important to her and she would never miss a Sunday mass, if she could help it. She was a long-time member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral Senior choir.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday December 29th, 2022, at 11 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bathurst with a reception to follow in the church basement.

Donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
