Bathurst – Fane Darrell “Sonny” Dezan, of South Tetagouche, NB, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 83.
Born and raised in Eastern Townships of Quebec, he was the son of the late Famie Darrell Dezan and Jessie Gerturde Graves.
In 1971, he married the late Faye (McLaughlin) Dezan.
He is survived by his two sons, Fane Patrick Dezan of South Tetagouche, NB and Darrell Anthony Dezan (Jessica Doucet), two grandsons Noah Sonny and Zachary Robert, and one granddaughter Katelynn Evelyn all of Big River, NB.
A husband, father, grand-father, coach, sports fan, business owner, and friend to many, Sonny was well-known around town for his community involvement, his sense of humour/wit, and friendly demeanor. After moving from Quebec to operate Pinballs around New Brunswick, Sonny made Bathurst his home where he established his own business operating Pinballs, Jukeboxes, and Arcade Games. Sonny loved his sports, including coaching all age categories and competition levels in minor hockey. In the last few years, he returned to being a fan of his grandkids’ teams.
Sonny was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree), and a founding long time member of the Chaleur Crime Stoppers organization.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday November 8, 2023, at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday November 10th, 2023, at 11 a.m. from St. Rapheal’s Catholic Church, 107 Main St. Blackville, NB. Donations in memory of Sonny may be made to New Brunswick Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
