John left us on January 10th, 2024. John was a very caring son, nephew, friend and brother to three, Scott, Peter and Glen.
John was born in Fredericton, NB, the first child of Dave and Jean (Smylie) Ferguson. Most of his first 13 years were spent growing up in Kelowna, BC, where his father managed a boat production plant. After this, he returned to his dad's home in Bathurst, NB. He always had fond memories of Kelowna and did return to visit later in life.
Upon his return to Bathurst, John was involved in many activities with the First United Church (including the choir and often reading scriptures, and teaching Sunday School classes), the scouting movement (achieving the highest honors of Chief Scout Award).
John was also a very active member of Gowan Brae Golf Club, who loved to go with his Grandfather Huntley, uncle Gilles his brothers and friends. John was also a very competitive curler, reaching the finals in the NB juniors twice as a skip and competing each week at the BCC. He was also a past President of the Bathurst Curling Club. John was also an active member of the Local United Commercial Travellers group.
John graduated from UNB with BBA in 1987 and went to work with his father for Mutual Life of Canada. He later worked with Sunlife and Money Concepts.
John will be missed by many, including his brothers: Scott and Glenn, nephews Ben and Christian; nieces Jillian and Keara, cousins Kurt, Kelly, Sarah, Phil and Patrick. Also, his wonderful aunts Linda, Marg Uncles Gilles and Murph.
Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by a brother, Peter.
A joint celebration of life for John and Peter will be held on Friday July 19, 2024, at 1 p.m. from Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel, Bathurst. Any donations in his memory can be to the local Shriners club or a choice of the donor.
