With celebration of a life well lived, we the family announce the passing of our mother, Alda Jane (Knowles) Ellis, of Bathurst and formerly of Canobie, which occurred on Friday, January 19, 2024 after a short illness at the age of 92.
Born in Canobie she was the daughter of the late Rufus and Bella (Jagoe) Knowles.
Mom was a dedicated homemaker. She was known for her green thumb, cooking, baking, mentoring, and feeding anyone who was on the farm at mealtime.
She strove to ensure all her children were educated and able to follow any dreams they had. Thus, her legacy will continue for many years in the lives of her 7 surviving children, her 20 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Mom was a lifelong member of the Anglican Parish of New Bandon, the Canobie Women’s Institute, and the Chaleur Evening Stars.
Alda is survived by her six daughters: Irma Downing (Donald) of St. Leolin, Lorna Murty (Giles) of Salmon Beach, Bella Brown (Ken) of Surrey, B.C., Mitzi Whelton (Roland) of Upper Cape, NB, Louise Whalen (Craig) of Bathurst and Jodi Sullivan (Darrin) of Stittsville, ON and one son, Tracy (Lee Ann) of Canobie and a daughter-in-law Leeanna Morrison of Janeville.
Brother, Milton “Mick” Knowles (Helen) of Bass River.
Sister, Evelyn Morrison (Leigh) of Bathurst.
She was predeceased by her husband Ivan (2010) and sons, Brian (1994) and Bert (1996), sisters Isalee Dempsey (late Thomas), Vesta Ramsay (late William), Helen Sealy (late Eldon), Bella Knowles and Evangeline Upham (late Ivan) and brothers Glendon Knowles (Muriel) and Morris Knowles.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 2 – 4 & 7 -9 p.m. at Elhatton Funeral Home, (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 2 p.m. from Elhatton Funeral Chapel.
Donations in memory of Alda may be made to the Anglican Parish of New Bandon or a charity of the donor’s choice.
