On February 10th, 2024, our loving mom, wife, grandmother, sister and friend, Gloria Ramona Currie (originally Greer), wife of Hugh Currie, passed away peacefully in Halifax, NS.
Born in Saint John NB and raised at Tynemouth Creek, on the shores of the Bay of Fundy, she was the daughter of the late Winslow and Florence Greer.
It was in Saint John that she met her husband, Hugh Currie. They worked, and started their family here, before moving to Bathurst in 1967, where they lived happily for over 40 years. Gloria was a loving and devoted partner to Hugh, for 70 years.
Together, they raised their 3 children, Andrew (Sandra) Currie, Alison (Vijay) Currie, and Gillian (Terry) Morrison, lovingly and selflessly. Gloria bestowed the same devotion, and adoration to her 3 Granddaughters, Kate, Elizabeth, and Carys. Her zest for life could be heard in her roaring laugh that will echo in all our memories of her. Her smile alone could light up a room. The best feeling of all was coming home to Mom. She was quite simply LOVE.
As a friend, Gloria was no less exuberant. She had numerous neighborhood friends and a close group of women in her life affectionately referred to as the “Bridge Ladies”. Gloria loved good conversation, good wine, and good food and those were the staples for every gathering, of which there was many.
Gloria was an active member of the First United Church in Bathurst, where she was an avid volunteer throughout the years. She loved her community and was a proud member of the Bathurst Bridge Club. She spent countless hours in the woods around Bathurst bird watching with friends, swimming at Golden Sands and walking Youghall Beach with her daughters.
Gloria is survived by her brother, Charles Greer, (Vonna), of Tynemouth Creek, NB and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her best friend and sister, Marjorie Robertson (Charlie) and brother, Norman Greer (Faye).
The family would like to thank, all of Gloria’s wonderful caregivers, for the years of love and care they gave her. Due to their devotion, Gloria was able to spend her last remaining years together with her beloved Hugh.
Private cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place this summer in Bathurst, where we will celebrate Gloria and remember her love for life.
