Frank Quigg of Bathurst, NB passed away peacefully with a smile on his face on July 7, 2024 at Foyer Notre-Dame-De-Lourdes.

Born in Cabbagetown, Toronto, he was the son of Irish immigrants, Henry (Hank) Quigg and Kathleen McCormack and was predeceased by his brothers Thomas and Harry.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Ann (Clinch) and his two daughters and their families; Kathleen Quigg (the late Craig Carleton) in Fredericton and Mary Quigg (Simon Gaskins) in Kentville, NS.

His much-loved and cherished grandchildren are Liam, Seth, Kate, Benjamin, and Thomas.

In 1963, Frank was welcomed with open arms into the Clinch and Ouellette families, and became a brother to Jane and Lou Ouellette and Roger and the late Donna Clinch. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Encouraged by his parents, education formed an important part of Frank’s life, both in his own learning and his life-long dedication to teaching. He earned a Bachelor of Arts (1967) and Bachelor of Education (1969) from St. Thomas University, a Master of Education from the University of Maine (1974), and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Ottawa (1985). He also earned a graduate Psychology credential from the University of New Brunswick (1994). He continued learning during his life, studying French at the Centre Linguistic in Quebec, Université Ste. Anne, and Bathurst Community College.

Frank lived a full life marked by devotion to his wife and family, his teaching vocation, and service to his community. As an educator and counsellor, he had a great impact on many lives with his natural kindness and gentleness having a positive effect on his students and clients. He will be missed by a wide circle of family, friends, and those whose lives he influenced.

He taught for nine years in elementary and high school in Bathurst before serving as Vice-Principal, Principal, and Guidance Counsellor for 22 years. After his work in teaching, for over two decades Frank counselled children, adolescents, and adults in the school system. He represented the province on the Canadian Guidance and Counselling Association.

His service to his profession and the Bathurst community was extensive. He served as chair of the Professional Development Committee, various committees for School District 15 and 42, and represented the region in numerous matters. He also served on the Provincial Executive of the New Brunswick Teachers Association which required work on many professional committees, and he represented the body at national gatherings. In the community, he was a founding member of the Chaleur United Way, chaired the Kidney Foundation, and served at the Bathurst Volunteer Centre.

He served on the Parish Council for the Sacred Heart Cathedral of Bathurst and taught catechism for many years. He was a counsellor for the City of Bathurst and was deputy mayor. In later years, he became as well known for his active lifestyle as his walking, running, and cross-country skiing became synonymous with his name.

His family is grateful for the care that Frank received over the final year of his life. They would like to extend their deep appreciation to the nurses, caregivers, and staff at Foyer Notre-Dame-De-Lourdes, particularly in Palliative Care. The kindness of close family friends Sharon Connolly Comeau and Claudette Lavigne will forever be appreciated.

The family will receive family and friends on Monday, July 15th from 7 to 9 p.m. at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), 187 St. George St., Bathurst. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 16th at 11 a.m. from Sacred Heart Cathedral, 123 St. Andrew St., Bathurst. A reception will follow the service.
