Bathurst - Leonard J. Arseneau, 99 of Bathurst, passed away at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on August the 30th, 2024.

Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Benedick (Benny) Arseneau and Theresa Doucet.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He leaves to morn his wife Jean (Chiasson) Arseneau of St. Camille St after 66 years of marriage.

A veteran of WW2, he served with the Royal Canadian Navy in the high seas as a gunman from 1943 to 1945 when the war ended.

After the war he worked for Nortel in Montreal as a Senior Buyer.

He retired in 1979 after working 37 years with the Company. His dream was always to take an early retirement and move back to Bathurst to enjoy his cottage and fishing on the Bay of Chaleur.

Leonard was a life time member of the Herman J Good, V.C. Branch 18 of the Royal Canadian Legion and served as Service Officer for several years. He was an honorary member of the Navy League of Canada, Bathurst Branch. After spending 30 years of volunteer work in support of the Sea Cadets, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Navy League of Canada in recognition of the Notable Distinguished Service to the Sea Cadets movement.

He was a life time member of the Pioneer Telephone of America in 2006

He received a certificate of appreciation from the Veteran's Unit, Robert L Knowles for his volunteer work with the Veterans.

He received the Key to the City of Bathurst from Councilor Clair Wilt for " The Year of the Veterans in 2005".

Besides his parents he was predeceased by five sisters: Delcina (George Barker), Sr. Carmel, Ethel (Lennie Cathcart), Winnie (Cletus Kenny), Rita (Fred Best) and two brothers: Harold (Anita & Lorraine) and Lawrence (Geraldine).

Not having any children of his own, he enjoyed his many nieces and nephews.

We wish to thank the Extra Mural Nurses, Lynn Roy Veteran Nurse, Stephane Chamberlain for the special care and Dr. Camiré.

Donations can be made to RC Legion Branch 18,

to the Holy family church or a charity of the donors choice.

There will be no visitations. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday September 6, 2024, at 2 p.m. from Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
