Donald Davis Tozer of Bathurst, NB. passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024 at Le Foyer Notre Dame-de-Lourdes in Bathurst at the age of 95.

Born in Sillikers, NB, Donald was the son of the late Hubert and Margaret (Johnson) Tozer. He was predeceased by brothers James, Blair, Kenneth and Glenn and sisters Margaret Ann and Shirley (deceased at age 4).

Donald “Don” will be greatly missed and warmly remembered by his son Dale (Linda Schuster) of Coquitlam, B.C., his daughter Paula of Ottawa, ON, and his brother Gerald Tozer (Maye) of Bathurst. Don was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Katherine (Kaye) Laura Savage in November 2017.

Don and Kaye moved to Bathurst as newlyweds in 1949 where Don began his career in the pulp and paper industry as a purchasing agent for the Consolidated Bathurst Mill. He later moved to the supply side of the paper industry that lead to a successful career as a sales representative for Scapa Group of the UK. As Sales Manager for Atlantic Canada, Quebec and Eastern Ontario, much of his career was spent “on the road” as he travelled to the various cities and towns with pulp and paper mills at that time. He developed close friendships with both colleagues and clients from across Canada along the way. Don retired from Scapa Group in 1994.

Don also had a career has a reservist in The New Brunswick (North Shore) Regiment. He achieved the Rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1955, was later promoted to Captain and earned a pilot’s license. He was also an active member of First United Church in Bathurst where he enjoyed singing in the Men’s Choir and served as a member of the Ways and Means Committee.

In retirement, Don became an avid snowmobile and all-terrain vehicle enthusiast. He loved to “head up to the camp” with the boys. Don also had a great love of music and was more than happy to join a sing-along around a campfire at Youghall Beach.

The family is extremely grateful for the care that Donald received as his cognitive abilities declined at Southern Comfort Villa and more recently at Le Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes. Also, so much gratitude to his special care giver, Joyce Blackett of South Tetagouche for her support and care over the years.

A celebration of Donald’s life will be held from Elhatton's funeral home chapel on Tuesday, October 1st at 2p.m., followed by a reception. Interment will take place next to his wife Kaye at Highland View Cemetery in East Bathurst.  Due to allergies, the family is requesting no flowers.

Donations in Donald’s memory can be made to First United Church in Bathurst or a charity of your choice.
