It is with great sadness that the family, of Franklin Melanson, announce his passing which occurred at his home on O’Neil Drive on Tuesday, December 24th, 2024, at the age of 90. Franklin lost his loving wife Patricia “T.C.” on June 27, 2004.

Born in Bathurst in 1934, Franklin was the son of the late Eldon and Helen (Bertin) Melanson.

He is survived by his children: Shirley Shaw of Calgary, AB, Bobby (Brenda) of Whitehorse YT., Barry (Chris) of Duncan, BC, Eric (Susan), Keith and Jason (Amie) all of Bathurst.

Ten grandchildren: Ryan, Shelby, Greg, Brandi, Danie, Tristin, Tanner, Mitchel, Nicholas and Anthony.

He had several great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

His three sisters: Marion Kerr (Wesley), Isabel Frigault (late Gilbert), Theresa DeGrace (Kenneth) and two sisters-in-laws Carol O’Neil and Judy Melanson.

Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by sisters: Olga Calnan, Jeanette O’Neil, Causetta; and brothers: Albert, Edward and Alfred.

He started with the City of Bathurst in 1956 as a police officer and retired as a Firefighter in 1994.

Franklin built his log cabin in Little River in 1974. He spent many happy years there with TC and his family. There were many good times enjoying music, dancing and laughing. He loved playing the accordion and harmonica. Many card games were won and lost at the camp. He loved to be in the woods.

Over the past 14 years, he liked taking his dog Bailey to the camp for a run. He loved to have her by his side. She was a faithful companion. Her place was in the front seat of the truck, at the foot of his bed or by his side.

Franklin enjoyed a full life. He always had a positive attitude, great sense of humour and a smile on his face. He lived in the home he built with TC where they raised their children. He celebrated his 90th birthday at his home in May.

The family would like to thank everyone, friends, neighbours and family who have been supportive to Franklin over the years.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 9th, 2025 from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave. Donations in memory of Franklin may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst, NB.
