Bathurst - John "Chuck" Kennah, 79, of Rust Bank Ct., passed away at his summer residence at Bayshore Dr., on Thursday (October 2, 2008) after a lengthy illness. Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late John "Jack" and Mary Ellen "Nellie" (Doucet) Kennah. He worked at Northern Machine Works Ltd before going to the former Consolidated Bathurst Paper Mill. John was inducted into the Bathurst Sports Hall of Fame with the 1945-46 Interscholastic Hockey Team and in 1947-48 with the Bathurst Paper Maker Hockey Team. He was awarded the Honor of the Gold Medal Badge for Machinist from the Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers. John enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling up-river at his camp at Indian Falls. He spent many hours as a volunteer for the Bathurst Cross Country Sky Club. Besides his wife, the former Evelyne Duval, he is survived by: One son: John (Hélène) of North Tetagouche Three daughters: Jane Williams (Gary) of Halifax, NS Ann Walker (Lyle) of Lexington, Virgina, USA Maureen Halfstein (Irwin) of Salmon Arm, BC Two brothers: Cletus Kennah (Stella) of Bathurst Kenneth Kennah (Jean) Namimo, BC Two sisters: Eleanor McNally (late Patrick ) of Saint John, NB Mary Toone (late Robert) of Deep River, ON One step-brother: Jack Power (Rose-Helen “Deli”)of Bathurst 9 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a step-sister; Joan Walsh. The family will receive relatives and friends after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday morning (October 6, 2008) at 11:00 a.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bathurst. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Donations in memory of Chuck may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
