Janeville – Mrs. Doreen Smith, 78, wife of the late Mervin John Smith, of Canobie, passed away on Sunday (January 9, 2011) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.

Born in Mathew Settlement, NB, she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Ida (Hamilton) Somers.

She was a member of the Chaleur Evening Stars, Women’s Institute and the Red Hat Society.  She was a member of the Christ Church Anglican, Clifton.

She is survived by:

Two sons: Grant Smith (Mildred) of Bathurst and  Robert Smith (Grace) of Stonehaven.  Two daughters: Heather McGuire of Bathurst and Jane Jagoe (Kerry) of Canobie.   One son-in-law: Jerry Coombs (Pierrette) of Janeville.  Three brothers; Harold Somers (Sandra) of Lyttleton, Jack Somers (Barbara) of Black River and Frank Somers (Anna Lee) of Mathew Settlement.  Two sisters; Blanche Hubbard of Moncton and Shirley Haars (Nick) of Miramichi.  Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Doris Coombs in 2003.

The body will rest after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday afternoon (January 12, 2011) at 2:00 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel.  Visiting hours are Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
