Bathurst - Donald W. Smith, husband of Janice (Barron) Smith, of Bathurst, passed away suddenly on Saturday (May 26, 2012) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, at the age of 68.

Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Donald Kent and Lillian Blanche (Nickerson) Smith.

He worked for 22 years for Eddy Group Ltd. and as an accountant at Bluenote Caribou Mines.  He was an avid member of the Bayview United Baptist Church and served as treasurer and was a member of the Finance, Deacon and Trustee Board.  He also sat on the Board of Directors of Crandall University (formerly Atlantic Baptist University) and the Atlantic Baptist Senior's Citizen's Homes Incorporated.

Besides his loving wife of 42 years, he is survived by his children: Krista Metcalfe (Peter) of Lower Sackville, NS and Darren Smith (Dianne) of Mill River, P.E.I.  Proud grandfather of Noah, Jonathan, Jacob, Matthew, Nathan, Thomas and Benjamin.  Two sisters: Dianne Kuntz of Edmonton, Alta., and Susan Brown of Parkesville, B.C., several nieces and nephews.

The body will rest after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. 

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday afternoon (May 31, 2012) at 2 p.m. from the Bayview United Baptist Church, O’Neil Dr. 

Visiting hours are Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. 

Donations in memory of Donald may be made to the Bayview United Baptist Church, or Crandall University.
