Charlottetown, P.E.I. – Mrs. Sarah Ruth Knowles, formerly of Bathurst, passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, on December 20 2012 after a brief illness.

Ruth was the beloved wife of the late James "Jim" Knowles, and wonderful mother to Joyce (Rev. Bill) MacLeod.

She was Grammie to three grandchildren: James (Jennifer), Jeremy, Jillian (Michael) Morehouse, and Great Grammie to Sheumais, Abbi, Emily, Aiden, and Ava.

She is also survived by four sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a teacher by profession, community volunteer, avid gardener, member of Shawls of Hope, and an active member of First United Church in Bathurst for a great many years. In August, 2011, Ruth moved to Charlottetown (Garden Home) to be near her family.

Visitations will be held at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst, on Saturday, December 22, from 3-5 and 7-9.

A Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance will be held on Sunday, December 23, at 3 p.m. at First United Church, Bathurst. Donations in memory of Ruth may be made to First United Church.
