1926 - 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lovena Marie Anderson (Lapointe), formerly of Princess Dr., Bathurst, which occurred at the Foyer-Notre-Dame-De-Lourdes, on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at 86 years of age.

Lovena was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend.  She will be missed by many.

She was a loving mother to: Larry (Amy) of Bathurst, Leroy (Darlene) of Fredericton.

Nana to: Tanya (Etienne) Beresford, Troy, Heather (Mathieu) London Ont., Cody (Sarah) Guelph Ont. and Dennis (Rachel) of Vancouver B.C.

Her great-grandchildren: Aniston, Oliver, Claire and Rylee.

She will also be missed by her remaining sisters: Anne Parker (Maurice) of Campbellton, Patsy Schoolcraft, Florence Lapointe, Alice McLean (Donald) all of Bathurst, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Through the years, Lovena sadly lost many special people in her life also.  She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Louie, her step-son, Louis and her daughter, Lynn and siblings: Frankie Lapointe, Claudia Bourdage, Harvey Lapointe and Antoinette Brown.

Lovena was born and raised in Bathurst, but spent many years that she fondly recalled as her Belledune days, where she worked with family at Landry’s General Store.  She was also an employee at Stedmans after returning to Bathurst to live, and spent many years working for several different employers at the corner store on Riverside Drive. Having worked most of her life in retail, Lovena’s  sincere knack of blending customer service with her genuine love of people, resulted in many friendships that she cherished for many years.

In her later years, she enjoyed the time she spent at church and with various groups and especially in her time with Club 200.  Developing  Parkinson’s and the loss of her daughter, Lynn in 2004 however, were huge setbacks for her, but her faith, her belief and her love of  family and friends guided her through her troubled times.

Lovena cherished her family and friends. She loved being called Mom, Nana Venna and Ma Tante Venna.  This was a role she embraced and excelled in.  She would often comment on how much joy she felt at having family around her, and her door was always open.  Her home was a place of entertainment and refuge for her nieces and nephews and later her grandchildren. Many spent summer vacations, weekends or even just lunch hours with her, and she enjoyed those visits greatly.

Even though Lovena’s last few years were somewhat limited,  she believed truly that life was good and her strong faith would show her the way.

There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning (March 9, 2013) at 11 a.m. from the Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst, with a reception to follow in the church hall.

Donations in memory of Lovena may be made to the Foyer Notre Dames de Lourdes Foundation or a favorite charity.

Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
