1931 - 2013

Bathurst - Melvin Garrett, 81, of King Ave., Bathurst, passed away on Tuesday (March 12, 2013) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.

Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late John Garrett Sr. and Loretta Lavigne. 

He was employed with Consolidated Bathurst for forty years.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Betty" (Scott).

Three daughters: Lois Lewis (Neil) of Canton, Michigan, Brenda Garrett of Bathurst, Paula Lockhart (Derrick) of New Minas, N.S.

Two sons: Robert (Pauline), Blair (Annette) both of Bathurst.

Eight grandchildren:  Taylor, Keith, Patrick, Elizabeth, Logan, Nicole, Heidi and Christian.

One great-granddaughter, Ella.

Two brothers: Louis (Irma) of Amherst, N.S., John Jr. of Bathurst.

Two sisters: Adeline Kindahl of Alabama, Marion Rasku (Risto) of Calgary, Alta.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Diane Doucet (late Dale) in 2005; two brothers: James and Cletus; five sisters: Frances Hennessy, Irene Power, Sheila Roy, Janet Bird and Mary Breckenridge.

Visitation will be held on Thursday (March 14, 2013) from 2-4 and 7-9 pm only at the Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), 187 St. George St, Bathurst. 

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday (March 15, 2013) at 2 pm from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Andrew St. 

Donations in memory of Melvin may be made the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
