NELSON, Chad B., 30, of Bathurst, passed away suddenly while in Shenzhen, China on April 10, 2013.  

Born in Campbellton N.B., Chad lived life to the fullest and celebrated many personal milestones along the way.   Chad graduated from Bathurst High School in 2001 and went on to study Trumpet Performance in his Bachelor of Music degree from Acadia University, graduating in 2005, followed by a Bachelor of Education in 2009, also from Acadia University.   His passion for music gave him the opportunity to play for thousands of people from around the world, playing the Last Post and Reveille in various communities; in First United Church Bathurst; the Bathurst Community Band; New Brunswick Youth Orchestra; Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra; National Youth Band of Canada; National Concert Band of Canada; and many other elite ensembles.  

Chad’s teaching career began in Bathurst and led him to a position at the International School of Nanshan in Shenzhen, China (ISNS), where he had been teaching Music since 2011.

Chad had several other interests and hobbies, including cooking; badminton; volleyball; coaching and umpiring baseball.   

Chad leaves behind family and friends that love him very much: 

His parents: Don & Lola (Beck) Nelson of Bathurst.

One brother,  Brent (Heather) of Bathurst.

One sister, Heather Snow (Matthew) of Lower Sackville N.S

His grandmother, Mabel Beck (Sutherland) of Balfron N.S.

Three nephews: Liam & Elliot Nelson, Elijah Snow; one niece,  Anna Snow.

Several aunts, uncles and cousins; close friends from around the world; and He Li Hua (Lily), his fiancée and the love of his life.   

He was pre-deceased by grandparents: Carl Beck of Balfron N.S., Ole & Alice Nelson of Lower Caledonia, Guysborough County N.S.   

Funeral Service was held on Saturday (May 4, 2013) at 2 p.m. from the First United Church, St. Patrick St., Bathurst.  Burial was in The Falls Cemetery, Colchester County, NS.

Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Bathurst. 

ISNS will be building a house in Vietnam in Chad’s memory.  Donations received will be made in Chad’s memory to Camp Rotary in Fredericton NB, the Canadian Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choice.
