Bathurst - Guy O'Connell, 77, formerly of Munroe St., Bathurst, passed away on Saturday (May 25, 2013) at the Foyer Notre Dames de Lourdes, Bathurst, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Nigadoo, he was the son of the late Granville and Florida (Fournier) O'Connell.

He worked as a Superintendant for the New Brunswick Department of Transportation until his retirement.  He was inducted into the Bathurst Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 with the South Bathurst C.Y.0 Hockey Team and was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Besides his wife, Albertine (Lavoie) O'Connell, he is survived by four children:  Terry O'Connell of St. Thomas, Ont., Sharon Dekraker (Ben) of Sussex, Lynn Vienneau (Daniel) of Bathurst and Bonnie Weil (Wayne) of Almer, Ont. 

Three brothers:  Daniel O'Connell (Camilla) of Caraquet, Earl O'Connell (Mado) of Stitsville, Ont. and John O'Connell (Jeannie) of Nigadoo. 

Two sisters:  Brigit Sullivan (Doug) of Moncton and Mary Ellen Pollock (Barry) of Vancouver Island, B.C. 

7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 2 brothers: Ally and Orville.

There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home.  A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Tuesday afternoon (May 28, 2013) at 2 p.m. from Elhatton's Funeral Home Chapel, St. George St., Bathurst.  Donations in memory of Guy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a favorite charity.
