Janeville, N.B. - Roger Charles Kaye, 78, of Janeville, passed away on Thursday (September 5, 2013) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.

Born in Centre Village, N.B., he was the son of the late Russell Charles and Margaret (Gould) Kaye.

Roger grew up in Sackville, N.B.. where he attended Mount Allison University completing his Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science (geology).  He had many diverse occupations over his life, beginning as a geologist in many rural parts of Northern Ontario and Newfoundland.  He and his young family moved to Bathurst in 1965 to begin work with Noranda.

He spent his summers as a teenager working on his grandfather’s farm in P.E.I. and always felt a calling to return to these roots.  In 1971 he and his family moved to Canobie where he blended his Noranda work with beef farming.  In 1979 he made the move to rural life complete becoming a full time dairy farmer in Canobie up until his retirement.  He was an active member of the North East Soil & Crop and Dairy Farmers of NB up until his retirement from farming and an active member of the Parish of New Bandon Anglican Church until his passing.

Roger struggled bravely with a lengthy battle with cancer since 2005.  He faced his difficulties with dignity and courage passing away suddenly on Sept. 5 at Chaleur Regional Hospital due to complications.

Roger is survived by two sons: Peter (Beverly) Kaye of Canobie, Darren (Carol) Kaye of Ste-Anne.

Two daughters: Elan (Peter) Dempsey of Stonehaven and Linda (Don) Moriarty of Jacquet River.

Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by one sister, Marion (David) Crossman of Sackville, N.B.

His former wife,  Gail (Miller) Kaye of Ste-Anne, and dear friend Eunice Daley of Canobie

Roger received excellent care during his ordeals at Chaleur Regional Hospital, and the care and compassion he was shown during his treatments at the George Dumont Hospital and Lodge were simply outstanding.  He always remarked that very special people work in these places.

The body will rest from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday morning, September 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel.
