It is with great sadness the family of Howard David Ross, husband of Florence B (Roy) Ross of Princess Drive, Bathurst, announce his passing, on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, with his family at his side. He was 92 years old.
Born in Barryville, N.B., he was the son of the late Hampford and Janie (Brideau) Ross.
Besides his loving wife of 70 years, he is survived by six children: Michael of Toronto, ON, Glenna Hopkin (Barry) of Raymond Shores, AB, Lorraine Chamberlain (Robert), Bernard (Mary Jane Lavigne), Paul (Gisele), and Karl Ross (Sylvie Landry) all of Bathurst.
Eight grandchildren: Christine Ross of Barrie, ON, Chantal Hawkings of Calgary, AB, Jason Chamberlain of High River, AB, Deneen Pentland, Lisa Boudreau, Sylvie Ross, Kurtis Ross, all of Bathurst and Kyleen Ross of Moncton.
Seven great-grandchildren: Cameron, Ethan, Cailey, Michaela, Cedric, Joeve and Colin.
One brother Hampford Ross (Pat) of Cambridge, ON and a sister Cecilia Tasker (Gary) of Alberta.
Several nieces and nephews.
Howard was a life member of Holy Family Knights of Columbus no. 12031, life member of Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly no. 0615 and a life member of the Bathurst Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18, Royal Canadian Legion. A World War II veteran, he was in the Royal Canadian Navy, enlisted in 1944 and served at sea until 1947. He was aboard the Quinte, The Port Hope and New Liskeard for short times and finally found himself on the ship HMCS Uganda under the command of Captain E.R. Mainguy, when she rounded the Cape Horn.
He spent most of his life selling insurance and real estate.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Lawrence, Raymond, Harold, Melvin and one sister Remelda (Ross) Winchester.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2018 between 2-4 pm. and 7-9 pm at Elhatton’s Funeral Home, St. George St., Bathurst. (www.elhatton.com) Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 2 p.m. from Holy Family Church, Bathurst. Burial will take place in Barryville, NB.
Donations in memory of Howard may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
