It is with great love and sadness that we announce the death of Mary Kathleen Joan White, née Flett, the daughter of the late Colin Flett and Mary Comeau Steiner Flett and widow of the late Thomas White, which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst on Wednesday June 17th, 2020 at the age of 89.

Joan is survived by her six children, Tim (Sue) of Bathurst, Mary Sorensen (Brian) of Nasonworth, NB, John (Linda) of Newnan, GA, Michael (Frances) of Oakville, ON, Peter (Lisa) of Quispamsis, NB and Brian (Heather) of Fredericton, seventeen grandchildren, Matthew, Kathleen (Denis), Jonathan (Jillian), Marc (Jenna), Jayne, Tammy, Kerry (Ben), Mary, Troy, Anthony, Greg (Whitney) , Caroline (Christopher), Sara, Alessia,, Sam (Emily), Ben and Henry and twelve great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Brown (Lester), Sister Mary Lynn Flett and Ann Flett.

Joan was pre-deceased by her husband Tom, her parents and stepmother, Elsie Flett. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Rosa and Dorothy, and brothers Frank, Frederick, Colin, and Joseph, who died in infancy, and sisters-in-law Madge Steiner, Charlotte Renault, Isabel Flett, Sister Joan White and Sister Mary White.

Joan and Tom raised six children and instilled in them the need for education and to seek to make meaningful contributions to their communities. Joan was a loving and dedicated mother, wife, and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She applied her many talents and support to managing the family business. She was diligent in her faith and supported her church, serving in various ministries and Parish Council at Sacred Heart Cathedral. She was a National Life Member of the Sacred Heart CWL, serving in executive positions locally as well as at the diocesan and provincial levels.

As a life-long resident of Bathurst, she had a keen interest in local and family history. Being of Scottish descent, she thoroughly enjoyed her ‘trip of a lifetime’ to Scotland with John and his family to explore some of her heritage.

Although she had health problems in the latter part of her life, she accepted her situation and never lost her sense of humour. The family is grateful for the kindness of Dr. Wade, Sylvie Roy-Godin and Donna-Lee Bernard. The calls from her cherished and faithful friends, and visits from Gail Milton and Ralph Burns, always made her day.

The family will receive relatives and friends at from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, August 10th, 2020 from Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a funeral mass will be held at a later date.
