Big River, NB – Mrs. Celia Glendenning, wife to the late Harry Glendenning, lost her battle with Dementia at the age of 97, on Monday, Feb 21, 2022. Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter to the late Terry and Eva White.

She leaves behind her daughter Lynda Glendenning of Big River and her sister Rose-Marie Losier of Bathurst.

She was predeceased by her siblings; Marjorie, Cletus, Roe, Doris, Cleo and Terry.

Celia was an active person who had many hobbies such as curling and bowling, as well as outdoor activities like snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. She was also an avid hockey and baseball (Toronto) fan. You could also spot her at almost every Titan game, in section 15, for the better part of the last 20 years.

She worked for Harper Kent her whole life and enjoyed her job as a clerk. There were no calculators fast enough to tell you what your change would be from your purchase before she could. She was a great mathematician.

Celia married the love of her life, Harry Glendenning of Big River, a veteran of the Hong Kong war (WWII), and they were the proud parents of their only daughter Lynda. Unfortunately, their time together as a newlywed couple was short but very happy. She continued to honour her husband as a war veteran throughout the remainder of her years.

After her husband’s death, she became a single mother. She was always doting on her daughter and her activities. She was an active member of the community of Bathurst as a member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 50 years, long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Herman J. Good VC Branch # 18 of the Royal Canadian Legion, she also taught religion for many years, as well as a volunteer Brownie leader.

She had a great, long, retirement enjoying activities such as camping, traveling, playing cards with her friends, snowshoeing, and just enjoying life in general. Celia was a very positive, strong, independent women with a witty sense of humor and a beautiful smile.

She battled many obstacles in her life like surviving tuberculosis at the age of 16 and battled cancer in her 80’s and did so with a positive outlook.

She loved her family and friends and made a point to keep in touch with many of them, including nieces and nephews, throughout her life. She was an important part of many people’s lives and she will be greatly missed.

Rest easy mommy.
