Marquis, Carole (nee Dow) -- Peacefully, after a long, courageous battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy (Shy-Dragger Syndrome), on Thursday November 29, 2007 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, NB. Born in Lachine, Que., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Hazel (Cottle) Dow. Beloved wife of Pierre and Mom to Lynne (Paul Boyle) of Quispamsis, NB, Jo-Anne (Jim Danahy) of Port Credit, ON, Glenn (Joan Hannan) of Pointe Claire, QC, and Chantal (Keith Daley) of Stonehaven, NB. Loving grandmother to Danielle, Shawn (Boyle), Kaely, Alec (Danahy), Michelle, Jacob (Marquis), Jillian Daley and step grandmother to Jenny Danahy, Alysa and Lauren Daley. A big sister to Janice Legault and Stephen Dow of Lachine, QC. Brave and determined, Carole defeated cancer as a young mother and raised four children together with Pierre. She taught and managed a kindergarten for many years. While at the same time she returned to university and obtained Bachelor and Masters of Education degrees. She then embarked on a new career as a teacher, district fine arts coordinator and caring guidance counselor in School District 15. Carole was a tireless volunteer to many organizations and was an appointed member to the NB Cultural Policy Task Force. A passionate artist and photographer, Carole leaves behind friends and students in whom she gently inspired a love of expression and creativity. Before taking on her final challenge, Carole and Pierre retired to travel and enjoy time with their family and friends across Canada and the U.S. There are many warm memories of canoe trips, family ski trips, sailing the Bay of Chaleur, and holidays together at the winter home in Florida. To the end, Carole was a quiet example of dignity and determination. Long after voice and limbs failed her, Carole used a wink to say “I love you”. Many thanks to the friends who spent time with or sent wonderful notes and letters to Carole, to the caring staff and volunteers of 4 West at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, and to Dr. D. A. Wade and his staff. The body will rest after 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday afternoon (December 5, 2007) at 4:00 p.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visiting hours are Sunday from 7 to 9 and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until time of Funeral. For anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation or a favorite charity.
