Janeville - Alice Annie (Good) Chapman, 82, wife of the late Ellsworth E. Chapman passed away peacefully at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on December 4, 2010, after a lengthy illness.
 
She was born in Salmon Beach, the daughter of the late Henry “Harry” Good and Catherine “Katie” (Scott) Good.
 
Alice was active in her community and admired for her leadership and organizational skills, her ability to laugh at herself, and her kindness and generosity.  She applied those qualities to love and serve her family and friends, her church, her community and her work.
 
She was a charter member of the United Church Women (UCW) when it formed in 1962. She was President of the Mirimachi Presbyterial of the UCW and a life member, always as a member of the Janeville Unit.  She is a Past President and Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst. She was also instrumental in organizing the original committee to build Bay Chaleur Manor downshore. She was a committed and faithful member of Central United Church.
 
She began her career at the Bank of Montreal in 1946 and retired in 1989. There was a gap in her bank career while she raised a family, and partnered with her husband in operating small businesses, both an oil distribution agency and campground.
 
Alice is survived by her daughter Brenda Lee Logan (Jonathan) of St, Andrews, NB; two sons Wells Chapman (Cathy), and Paul Chapman (Paula) both of Janeville; two sisters, Doris Scott (Norman) of Rough Waters, and Vera Wood (Dave) of Salmon Beach.
 
Alice’s pride were her eight grandchildren; Jennie, Jayme, Jessica, Katie, Alysen, Paul, Erin and Adam.
 
She was predeceased by a sister, Florence Ronalds, (Frederick) and an infant brother, Ralph.
 
The body will rest after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7 at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com). Bathurst. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from Central United Church, Clifton. Burial will be in the United Church Cemetery, Bridge Street. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 7 to 9 and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
