Bathurst - Roy Sterling McKiel of Riverside Dr., Bathurst, passed away on Sunday (April 10, 2011) at his residence at the beautiful age of 80.

Born in Campbellton, he was the son of the late Fred John and Ada (Jardine) McKiel.

Besides his wife, Carol (McCallum) McKiel, he is survived by: One son, Fred (Jeanne) of South Tetagouche, two daughters, Karen McKiel (Bill Finlay) of Kitchener, ON, Darlene McKiel of Cayman Islands.  Four step-children.  Six grandchildren, David M., Diane, David C., Emma, Taylor, Alex.  Three great-grandchildren, Gregory, Abigail, Kathleen.  Five step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson.  Six sisters, Rita Mclaughlin of Tide Head, NB, Dorothy McKiel of Surrey, BC, Kathleen Littlewood of Courtice, ON, Elsie Durocher (Jack) of Dryden, ON, Lorna Cameron of Winnipeg, MB and Karen Baird (Ron) of Kitchener, ON.  Several nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by a son, Danny and a brother, Robert.

Roy was in the military for 20 years, served overseas under NATO.  He was an active member of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst.  He was retired from Brunswick Mines.  He was a superb craftsman, whether it was working on vehicles or his love for wood work.  He experienced many hobbies and interests in his life, from getting his pilot license, boating, camping and traveling, just to name a few.  He was well known and well respected.  He was a "Jack of all trades" and master of them all.

There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon (April 15, 2011) at 2 p.m. from Elhatton's Funeral Home Chapel, St. George St., Bathurst, with Rev. Austin Jagoe officiating.  Donations in memory of Roy may be made to the Salvation Army, the Royal Canadian Legion or a charity of the donors choice.  Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
