1922 – 2016
Bathurst – It is with sadness that the family of Mrs. Barbara Huard, 94, wife of the late Clifford Huard, formerly of Bayshore Dr., Bathurst, announce her passing on Thursday, November 30, 2016 at the Robert L. Knowles Veterans Unit, Bathurst.
Born in Condicote, England, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Juliette (Hadde) Andrews.
Barbara served in Her Majesty’s Royal Air Force in World War II. She met her husband who was serving with the Carleton York Regiment in England. She immigrated to Canada with infant daughter and arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax in April 1945. Barbara was a life member and first female president of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst and staunch supporter of the Robert L. Knowles Veterans Unit. She worked tirelessly to help obtain an extension to the Unit so that each veteran would enjoy a private room. She ran the Bathurst SPCA shelter for many years and will also be remembered as an avid fan of the former Bathurst Papermaker Hockey team. She was an active member of the War Bride’s Association and received many commendations from the Royal Canadian Legion. It would be remiss not to mention her long-time friend, Robert "Bob" Hodgins, who was devoted to both Clifford and Barbara for over fifty years.
She was predeceased by her husband of sixty three years, Clifford and a son, Barry.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Jamieson (Bruce) of Bathurst.
One daughter-in-law, Gloria Huard of Oshawa, ON.
Grandmother to Debbie, Kim, Krista and great-grandmother to Jayden, Marcus and Nicholas.
One sister, Julie Ball (Roger Martin) of England. Several nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by several brothers and one sister.
There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 11 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bathurst.
For anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Robert L. Knowles Veterans Unit or a favorite charity. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Bathurst.
