It is with sadness that the family of Mrs. Maria Ouellette, 93, wife of the late John Ouellette, formerly of Riverside Drive, Bathurst announce her passing on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Chaleur Regional Hospital Palliative Unit.
Born in Nijmegen, Holland she was the daughter of the late Jacoba and Hendrekkus Egbars Burgess.
Maria was predeceased by her four brothers (Ger and Dick of Holland, John of Australia and Frank of California) two brothers-in law (Emile and Ralph) and one sister-in-law Violet.
Maria met her husband, John while he was serving in the North Shore Regiment during World War II. She was a proud to be known as an active member of the War Bride Association. She arrived at Pier 21, Halifax in 1946. Maria was a member of the Herman J. Good, V.C Branch 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Women's Auxiliary, Bathurst and a Catholic Women's League member of the Holy Family Parish for over 60 years.
Maria is survived by two daughters Mieka (Normand Coutu) of Montreal, Debbie (Reg Gammon) of Bathurst and one son Jacques (Terry) of Fredericton.
She was a proud grandmother to Natasha, Heather, Hans, Krista, Erika and Renee and great grandmother to Alexandre, Maxime, Alexander and Olivia.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 at the Elhatton's Funeral Home on Friday and funeral mass at Holy Family Church on Saturday December 10, 2016 at 10:00 am.
For anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
