It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Harold Westerberg, which occurred suddenly at his home on Riverside Drive in Bathurst on Saturday November 11, 2017, at aged 68. 

Born in Bathurst, Harold was the youngest son of the late Lorne and Marion (Wilneff) Westerberg.  He is survived by his brother Eric (late Carmelita Peters), sister Lillian, dear cousin Gloria (Kenny) Knowles and their respective families.

Known as "Harley" to friends and family, he lived most of his life in Bathurst, with occasional sojourns to Ontario and Alberta as employment demanded.  Harley preferred to work on his own terms and did so all his life, primarily working for mining, forestry and line-cutting contractors.  In recent years, he enjoyed more solitary work as a custodian.

Harley highly valued the sense of freedom and perspective inherent in spending time outdoors, be it cutting and stacking wood, shoveling snow, mowing a lawn or simply going for a long walk.  An avid hunter, trapper and fisherman, he spent as much time as he possibly could enjoying nature, regardless of the season, and took special joy in the cool crispness of fall. In his spare time, he loved to read, garden and very much enjoyed preparing home-cooked meals. 

In his later years, Harley became a devout Jehovah’s Witness, respecting and benefitting from the Bible studies and kind fellowship proffered therein. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a thank-you to the fellow ship of the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall on St. Anne Street in Bathurst for including them in the memorial service for Harold held on Saturday, 18 November 2017. A graveside service will be held at a future date to be announced.
