It is with great sadness the family of Séan Francis Briand of Beresford and formerly of Antigonish, husband of Irene (Chamberlain) Briand announces his passing which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the age of 71.
Born in Halifax, NS, he was the son of the late Francis and Margaret (Powell) Briand.
Séan moved to Antigonish in 1963, attended St. Francis Xavier University. As a student, he worked at the hospital lab. Graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry he started work at St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish, NS in 1970 in the labs of the biochemistry department.
Séan became head of the bio chemistry dept in 1971 and continued until his retirement in 2011. Family was always important to him and he put them first.
He attended St. Francis Xavier university chapel in Antigonish and was a Eucharistic minister there and was also a member of the Antigonish gardening club.
Besides his wife Irene, he is survived by three daughters: Alanna, Antigonish, NS, Maureen (Dave) Brown, Elmsdale, NS and Colleen (Russell Weller), Antigonish, NS, step-daughter, Natacha Bryanton, Beresford and step-son Harry Bryanton, Bathurst.
Four sisters: Kathy, Karen, Vivian, Marie, all of Antigonish.
One brother: Kevin (Karen), Houston, TX.
Four grandchildren: Kayla Morris, John Edmund Briand, Euan Doyle, and Aiden Doyle.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 11 am from Holy Name of Jesus Church, Beresford. There will be a service in Antigonish, NS a date and time to be announced. Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Beresford.
