It is with saddened hearts that the family mourns the passing of Jim Gillis, which occurred at the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes on March 1st 2020.
Jim shared his life with his loving wife Mary (Sissy). He is also dearly remembered by his children:
Leo (Shirley), of Bathurst, Gary (Sue), of Middle River, Holly of St. Anne, and Donna Cormier (Jacques), of St. Anne.
9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Several nieces and nephew.
He was predeceased by his son in law Serge Duguay.
Jim was a kindhearted gentleman, who provided for his family and who never hesitated to offer a helping hand. He was a sportsman at heart, where fishing and hunting with his buddies brought him much enjoyment. He sure had many fish « tales » under his hat! He appreciated sports of all kinds and he could easily be captivated when discussing the latest scores and results with the guys!
Jim was well respected in the mining industry. Prior to retirement in his seventies, he was employed by various mining companies. His longest tenure was with J.S Redpath Ltd., in a long career that provided much travels throughout Canada, the United States and in Greenland.
Special thanks to the dedicated staff at Southern Comfort Villa and Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes for their wonderful care and for making Jim’s last years comfortable.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held on Monday March 9 at 2p.m from Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel, Bathurst. ( www.elhatton.com )
Remembrances in Jim’s name can be made to the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes or a charity of the donor’s choice.
