It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Joseph Omer “O.T.” Theriault which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on January 26, 2021 at the age of 77 due to complications from his recently diagnosed cancer.
Born in Bathurst on April 2nd to Marcel and Vitaline (Cormier) Theriault.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn (Gibbs) Theriault, his 2 daughters: Renee Theriault, Jeannine (Theriault) Cumming, his 4 grandchildren: Amanda and Liam (Renee) Alexander and Madison (Jeannine) along with 5 sisters and 3 brothers and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 sisters: Rose Marie, Betty Ann and Jeannine.
Omer worked for many years and retired from Brunswick Mining and Smelting, was a member of the UCT, and an enthusiastic member of the Kinsmen Club. He was also the President and founding member of G.R.A.N.D society (Grandparents Requesting Access ‘N’ Dignity) NB Chapter. Omer was instrumental in changing the laws of the Family Services Act Sec 129(3).
The family will receive relatives and friends at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), St. George St., Bathurst on Friday, January 29th, 2021 from 7 to 9 p.m. The visitation is open to the public with social distancing measures in place.
Donations in memory of Omer may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
