Bathurst - The family of Lauza Legacy of Bathurst is saddened to announce her passing on January 14th, 2022, at the Foyer Notre-Dame-De-Lourdes at the age of 96. She was known to many and loved by everyone.

She is survived by her nine daughters: Malvina Pitre (Stanislas) of South Tetagouche NB, Yvonne Smith (late Alphee) of South Tetagouche NB, Sylvia Polianskas (Elmer) of St-Anne NB, Marie-Rose Legacy of Bathurst NB, Colette Legacy of South Tetagouche NB, Pauline Palmer (Ted) of Petit-Rocher Sud NB, Francine Good of Moncton NB, Diane States (Glenn) of Bathurst NB, and Nicole Couture (Stéphane) of Bathurst NB. Five sons: Hector Legacy, Gerard Legacy (Patsy), Norbert Legacy (Darlene) all of South Tetagouche NB, Emmanuel Legacy (Heather) of Hamilton Ont. and Etienne Legacy (Rachel) of South Tetagouche NB.

23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Apart from her children, she is also survived by two sisters: Marie-Blanche Roy (late Alphée) of South Tetagouche NB, Maria Smith (late Forrest) of Bathurst NB and three brothers: Henri Comeau (Eglantine) of Petit-Rocher, Emile Comeau (Norma) and Ernest Comeau (Carmelle) both from Beresford.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Wilfred Legacy, two sons; Aurèle and Joseph Legacy, two brothers; Fred (Maria) and George Comeau, a half sister Léa Comeau and a half brother Adélard Comeau.

Born and raised in Sainte Louise NB, Lauza started her family there along side with her husband Wilfred. They moved around to different places, and sadly, Wilfred passed away at a very young age. Lauza never remarried, instead, she raised her 16 children and thought them all what life was about. From preparing the firewood every fall, chasing chickens and making her fantastic homemade bread, Lauza was always ready for any visitors. To tell you the truth, anyone who tasted Lauza’s cooking would find any excuse to stop by and have a bite of whatever she had prepared.

Lauza was easy going and got along with everyone. She loved flowers, gardening, having company, but mostly, she loved life itself! She never backed down from a challenge. She was an avid dart player and played on both the City and Ste-Anne leagues, along with many of her children. She was affectionately known as Mon to her teammates and opponents. She enjoyed going on the girl’s yearly skidoo trip to the camp, which she did until the age of 80. She was a gentle soul with a heart of gold. Should you have crossed path with her, you were blessed with her love and very bright smile… and if you were really close to her, you surely got the “look” with her big brown eyes and fist raised in the air at one moment or another. One thing for sure, she always told you the truth, sugar-coating aside!

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Foyer Notre-Dame-De-Lourdes for their care and compassion. Thank you to the employee who stayed along side of her during her last moments as the family was not able to be there because of covid regulations.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 17th, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Church (Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire).  The family requests that masks be worn at church.  Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
