  •  Date of Death: January 27, 2022
  •  Location: Bathurst

It is with heavy hearts, that we, the family, announce the passing of Arthur Harry Smith on January 27th, 2022, at Chaleur Regional Hospital, one week before his 71st birthday.

The son of the late John L. and Mary R. (Glendenning) Smith, he grew up in Clifton, N.B. Over the years, he has lived in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario. You can be sure that wherever he hung his hat, there were plenty of horses nearby; they were his passion, and he was always ready to tell of his adventures with them. He most recently returned home to retire in Bathurst, New Brunswick.

He is survived by two brothers: Leeman of Bathurst and Allan of Peterborough, ON.

Arthur leaves behind two sons: Kerby Veneau (Leah) of Legal, AB, Andrew Veneau (Carla) of South Tetagouche and their mother Lorna.

He will also be missed by his children: Rebecca Comrie, Brittany Smith, John Smith and step- daughter Joleen Thompson, along with their mother Abby.

Added to the list, are 11 precious grandchildren, many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Along the way, Arthur married Gail Barkley of Fredericton and was stepfather to 2 wonderful girls.

We want to thank the excellent care Arthur received from Dr. Danielle Doucette and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit.

Special thanks go out to “Cousin Beth” who so diligently oversaw his care for the last few years, even while residing at Brise de l’Oasis Residence. Her kindness, compassion and laughter will always be remembered.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
