With appreciation for a life well and fully lived, the family of Gladys Buraglia (nee Moody) announce her passing at Chaleur Regional Hospital on March 11 after a brief illness, 19 days before her 91st birthday. Born in Dunlop, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Moody and Lillian (Colpitts). She was predeceased by her husband Mario, sisters Hazel and Elva and granddaughter Jessica Black. She is survived by her sister Joyce (Neuburg), daughter and son in law Linda and Ed, son Rocco, granddaughter Rozanne Sweeney, several nieces and nephews.
Mom and Dad lived an interesting life, running away in 1950 to get married- a Catholic and a Protestant, an east sider and a townie, mostly unheard of at that time, but both families benefited from the shock of having their children marry. Both continued to worship in their own church; she was a lifelong member of the United Church. Their union lasted until Dad passed away, just short of their 70th anniversary.
Mom was a positive, strong, friendly person who never complained and was devoted to her family. After being diagnosed and hospitalized with severe rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis at 50 and told she would be in a wheelchair within 5 years if she did not accept “Gold” treatment, she refused, kept working and proved them wrong without ever complaining or letting anyone know. She took over the office work at Mario's Metals when Mario was injured and hospitalized and continued working there for years after, never neglecting to take care of her family.
Mom enjoyed an active life over the years snowmobiling and a camp up-river, boating on the Bay of Chaleur (though she wasn’t a fan of the water), travelling to Florida, playing and winning shuffleboard games, supporting whatever Mario wanted to do. They also enjoyed playing cards with friends for many years.
Many thanks to Linda Vienneau and the wonderful staff of the Prestige, for their excellent loving care and friendship over the last three years. She was their biggest fan, always thankful for how well she was treated and having earned the name “cookie monster”.
Mom left this world quickly and quietly without bother to anyone, so typical of her. She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date to be determined.
