Bathurst - It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Austin Sullivan, of Bathurst, which occurred Friday February 3, 2023, just short of his 88th Birthday, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Janeville he was the son of the late Francis and Elizabeth “Nita” (Hopper) Sullivan.
He is survived by four sons: Dan (Wanda) of Canobie, Frank (Wendy) of Bathurst, Marc (Jennifer) of Calgary AB, and David (Stephanie) of Chauvin AB and Lorraine (Keith) Whalen, who was like a daughter to him.
Six Grand Children: Justin (Emily) of Moncton, Matthew (Chanel) of North Tetagouche, Megan (Vincent) of Bathurst, Zach, Michael and Makita of Calgary AB.
Great Granddaughter chloé, who was the new love of his life.
One Sister: Della Gallant (Late Robert) of Winnipeg, MB.
One Brother: Harry (Rowena) of Janeville.
Several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law.
Besides his beloved wife Alice (DeGrasse) and his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings: Gordon, Ira, Violet, Dymple, Howard and Marie.
Austin worked as a heavy equipment operator with the City of Bathurst for many years. He was a 3rd Degree Knight with the Sacred Heart Council 1935 where he served as a Trustee for many years. He was an active member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral as a server at both Sunday Masses and funerals.
Prior to Alice’s passing they could be found camping at Chapman’s or Doucetville surrounded by life long friends.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Andrew Street, Bathurst.
Donations in memory of Austin may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
