Bathurst - It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the death of Michael Andrew Cooper of Bathurst, New Brunswick, who passed away unexpectedly on April 18, 2023, at the age of 64.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years Margaret (Eddy) Cooper, two sons Douglas (Katie Anand) of Bathurst and Russell (Dragana Toprek) of Halifax, and two cherished grandchildren Loughlan and Isla.
Michael was born in North Bay, Ontario to the late Malcolm Cooper and Yvonne (Whitman) Cooper. Malcolm was a member of Royal Canadian Air Force and, growing up, Michael lived in bases across the country but considered Halifax home.
After completing high school in Halifax, Michael attended the Technical University of Nova Scotia (now part of Dalhousie University) and graduated in 1982 with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Michael spent most of his career at Brunswick Mines outside of Bathurst, as well as a few years in Australia. He was passionate about his work and peers at Glencore and was well respected in his field. His work took him around the world, feeding his love of travel.
Michael’s joys came from living an active lifestyle (golf, tennis, pickleball), seeing the world, past memberships in Masons and Shriners, his many treasured dogs over the years, and his family.
As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Donations in memory of Michael may be made to the Bathurst SPCA or the First United Church, Bathurst, New Brunswick.
Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
