It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the passing of Mary Goguen wife of Francis Goguen which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at the age of 77. She was the daughter of the late Perley and Irene (Lyons) Hogan of Newcastle.

Besides her husband of 54 years, she is survived by one son Andrew (Jennifer), two very special grandsons, Fletcher and Oliver and twin siblings William Alexander “Sandy” and Eileen Hogan all of Halifax.

Mary was a retired teacher having taught at Bathurst High, Janeville Elementary, Mary Gosnell and Parkwood Heights school. She held a Master’s degree in special education from UNB and loved teaching reading to children with learning difficulties.

Mary was an avid reader, belonging to a book club. She was an active member of the Holy Family CWL and a past president of the Holy Rosary CWL. She enjoyed travelling. Her favorite two trips were going to Toronto last summer with Andrew’s family. Her other favorite trip was a two-week river cruise in Europe.

The family would like to give a big thank you to Dr. J. Maillet and R. Pelletier as well as the staff at the Oncology and Palliative Care departments at the Chaleur Hospital.

There will be no visitation at the funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. from Holy Family Church, Bathurst. Donations in memory of Mary may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Bathurst.
