Bathurst - It is with profound sadness that we the family announce the passing of Jean Noreen Cormier of Brunswick Avenue, Bathurst, NB, which occurred on December 5, 2023 at the age of 90.
Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Frances (Branch) Doucet.
Besides her husband, Jean Marie Cormier, Jean is survived by her daughter: Nicole Hatheway (David) of Bathurst, NB and son: Michel “Mitch” Cormier (Michelle Johnston) of Charlottetown, PE.
She is also survived by her granddaughter: Lauren, step-grandsons: Nicholas, Morgan and William and step-granddaughter: Jayne, her sisters-in-law: Norma Doucet (late Clarence), Rita Cormier, Claudette Cormier, brother-in-law: Paul Cormier (Claudette) and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by three sisters: Loretta Quinn, Marion Quinn and Lois McGregor, two brothers: J. Bernard Doucet and Clarence “Boo” Doucet and half-brother: Earl Doucet. Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Following graduation from Sacred Heart Academy in 1950, Jean joined other family members in Brantford, Ontario where she found employment with the daily newspaper: The Brantford Expositor. Always lonesome for “The North Shore”, after 5 years, she decided to return to Bathurst, where she acquired employment as Office Manager at Steeves Motors Ltd. and later at Gorman Cain Limited, A & F Claims Service Ltd. and Morden and Helwig Ltd., retiring in 1994 after 21 years as a Bookkeeper.
Jean was an active member and past president of the Sacred Heart Council Catholic Women’s League. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral and Senior choirs for many years. She enjoyed weekly Bridge and Auction 45 card games, line dancing, the Dusty Sneakers program and Titan hockey games. Jean always looked forward to summers when the family would move to their summer cottage at Youghall Beach.
The family would like to thank Dr. Marc-André Doucet, Dr Marc-Étienne Parent, Extra-Mural Bathurst, and caregivers: Tracy and Claudette for the excellent care and compassion provided to Jean over the last few years.
There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday December 8, 2023, at 11 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Cathedral. For those who wish, a memorial donation to a charity of your choice may be made in memory of Jean.
