1949 - 2016

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of  Joseph "Joey" Donald Melanson of Bathurst which occurred on Thursday, April 21 2016 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, at the age of 66 after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Jarvais and Jean (Craig) Melanson.

Joey was known for his outgoing personality and his vast array of friends.  His passion for music, singing and entertaining will never be forgotten. Wherever a guitar could be found, you could be sure that Joey would be playing it.

He is survived by his long-time love, Kathy O'Neil.

His two daughters: Kelly Basque (Barry) of Rough Waters and Tracy Melanson (Tim Reilly) of Edmonton, Alberta.

One step-son, Derek Gray (Evann) of Saskatchewan and one step-daughter, Joanne Gray (Shawn) of Bathurst.

Two grandchildren: Taylor and Braydon Basque

The mother of his children, Jeannette Duguay.

His siblings: Brian of Bathurst, NB, Carol Spry (Len) of Capreol, Ontario, Craig (Simmone) of Hartland, NB and Paula Cummins (Danny) of Fredericton, NB.  Many special nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 25 2016 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) 187 St. George St., Bathurst. 

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday morning, April 26, 2016 at 11 am from Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Andrew St., Bathurst. 

Donations in memory of Joey may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
